About
HISAK-CSAC
Croatian Language Schools

HISAK-CSAC, the Croatian Schools of America and Canada, is an educational organization established in 1974. Its purpose is to organize Croatian language schools and teacher-training seminars. For this purpose, HISAK-CSAC prepares and publishes manuals and other aids for the learning and teaching of Croatian language and culture.

The Headquarters of HISAK-CSAK is shared with the Croatian Ethnic Institute at 4851 S. Drexel Blvd, Chicago IL 60615.

The first four member schools of HISAK-CSAC were in New York, Chicago, Hamilton, and Toronto. Presently there are 30 schools in America and Canada. The strongest concentration of Croatian language schools is in the Greater Toronto Metropolitan area with some 2000 students currently enrolled.

HISAK-CSAK organizes seminars and workshops for teachers. The organization also tests teaching aids and promotes the exchange of experiences with other ethno-cultural groups.

The other major long-term program of HISAK-CSAC has been the establishment of a chair for Croatian language and culture at the University of Waterloo in Canada with the Foundation for Croatian Studies.

The HISAK-CSAC manuals for teaching language have become the most published Croatian books outside of Croatia.
